Guidance and Support
College Information Centre
The College Information Centre team is dedicated to helping students before and during their time at College. They provide a detailed information service covering all our programmes of study, and can help you with your choice of courses. Should you need more in-depth guidance they will arrange for you to see a trained Personal Adviser who will assist you in exploring your study options.
The College information Centre is open Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm and Wednesday 9:00am-7:30pm (during term time).
Student Advisory Services
Student Advisory Service Advisors are available to help you with any practical problems you may have while at the College. Our advisors can offer information and advice and, if you require further specialist advice, refer you to a person or agency that can assist. The advisors will help with grant queries, financial matters, housing and benefits, local accommodation, part-time employment problems and family problems. All students are assured a confidential and supportive service. Student Advisory Services is also the place to go for information about the best way to travel to and from College. The Student Advisors are available in the College Information Centre.
Student Advisory Services are open Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:00pm, with late opening Wednesday 6:00pm-7:30pm (during term-time).
Careers (Connexions) Service
For more specialist help the Connexions Personal Advisors, based in the Library, can assist you with a variety of concerns including choosing courses, progression routes, applying to university, the gap year, job choice, CV writing, finding vacancies and interview techniques. To book an appointment ask at the Library control point or ring 020 8502 7857. The Library has careers and Higher Education information including books, videos, on-line programmes and magazines.
College Health Service
The College Nurse is on site daytime Monday to Friday, and gives advice and help to students on health related matters.
Learning Support
The College provides a full range of Learning Support Services, for all students. These are available to any student who requires extra support in order to reach their learning goals.
We offer the following support:
- Access to Skills Workshop to support communication, numeracy, study skills and assignment/coursework
- Individual support in workshops and/or classroom if required
- Specialist internal and external assessments to highlight additional learning support requirements
- Support in examinations; for example, readers, bilingual dictionaries, extra time and amanuensis (someone to whom you dictate official documents, such as an exam)
- Educational psychologist services; including reports for exam concessions
- Communicators for the deaf
- Specialist support for the visually impaired
- Learning Support Assistants to access the curriculum
- Equipment and specialist aids adapted to meet identified individual student needs
- Assessment and support for those who may suffer from dyslexia.
Self-referral
Any students requiring additional or specialist help are welcome to come to discuss their needs or phone via the switchboard. An appointment will then be made for you to discuss the type of help you need with your studies.

How to contact the Skills for Life Centre
During application and enrolment
Ensure that you tick the appropriate boxes on the forms that highlight your learning or physical needs. This will help us to plan ahead, so that support can be set up as quickly as possible when you join the College.
Through your class tutor
Speak to your tutor about your learning needs. They will arrange for you to see someone in the Skills for Life Centre so that an assessment of your needs can be made.
